I was walking on the trails at Snowshoe and my mind wandered to the recent passing of Dolly Parton. I really admire her and I am so thankful for her influence of kindness and honesty. And then my mind wandered to Jimmy Rodgers and a beautiful quote about the long low whistle of his funeral train as it made its way to meet friends and family waiting for him at the train depot in Meridian, MS, his birth and final resting place. The quote came from a book his wife wrote titled “My Husband Jimmy Rodgers.” And then I started to think to myself, “Dolly deserves a transcontinental funeral train.” And lo and behold! I swear, I am not making this up!, the long low whistle of the Cass Steam Engine Train sounded in the valley below me and echoed painfully and mournfully up the valley walls. I shivered. I am sure Dolly is smiling and singing down on us from up above and Jimmy Rodgers was there to greet her. He must agree. She deserves a transcontinental funeral train. ❤️
