We saw quite a few of these butterflies flittering around Snowshoe this past weekend. My husband was lucky enough to get this good photo. This is actually a Monarch butterfly, not its look-a-like, the Viceroy. And get this fun fact: Monarch Butterflies are the state butterfly of West Virginia. If I am understanding my AI agent correctly, the Monarchs we recently saw at Snowshoe are truly on their way flying south (downhill in my mind 😜) from southern Canada all the way to Mexico.
