Downhill Family Budget: The Shocking Cost of Shocks

My front left shock

This is my front left shock that I had replaced 11 months ago. It’s supposedly a new GM OE Premium Monotube Suspension Shock Absorber. It was part of a repair for the front shocks which cost about $2600.00. This shock is already going bad. Its pair is pristine. But the mechanic who installed the shocks refuses to acknowledge that the one is going bad. He went Mr. Wormwood on me. The condescension and posturing was classic.

Thankfully, it’s under warranty because he bought it from the local Chevy dealer. The local dealer will honor the warranty but I have to pay over $600 in labor.
