Downhill Family

After my daughter’s lesson, we explored the Bryce Resort area.

We found the ice cream shop called Smiley’s Custard which also has a very small putt-putt golf course and cute miniature mining sluice. Our ice cream was delicious. My daughter loved the mining sluice “experience.” She had learned about the process of mining in 2nd grade during the unit on Westward Expansion. This little experience was very simple but delightful.

Next we found Lake Laura but not before we discovered a place called Shrine Mont in the next community over from Bryce. Shrine Mont is in Orkney Springs and it was a fascinating discovery. I am still researching it.

The signage in the Bryce area is not great. And the gps cannot pick up a signal on the winding mountainy roads. So we had to return to the Bryce Resort rental shop and load our gps using their wifi signal for Lake Laura specifically. We still missed a turn but finally made it and it was gorgeous. We hiked part way around the lake and took some time to skip rocks into the water,

Last we ate dinner at the Copper Kettle at Bryce. The food was delicious. By this time the bike park had closed for the day, We sat outside and watched the staff complete closing routines. I had a glass of Chardonnay with a beautiful fresh mozzarella salad from the appetizer menu. My daughters got a cheese burger and fish tacos. It was glorious. The other downhill families ambled around, sat to eat and share stories and pack up.

Our drive back to Woodstock was easy and beautiful.
